DAfrOg’s aRtwOrk Ziggy paints the town in France

The window paintings of DAfrOg’s aRtwOrk are amazing, and while these snowmen won’t melt when it get’s warm they are removed from time to time. As David Frontin the hand behind the said recently on Facebook “The thing that motivates me is that as these decorations are temporary and will be removed in a short time and the challenge is to do better every time.”

While we don’t have a shot of David you can head over to his Facebook Page DAfrOg’s aRtwOrk and see his illustration Icon clearly a caricature of himself. No worries anyways, since likely this view is the one you will see of him most often, focused and working an another storefront window.

We chased “DAfrOg” from France to England this December trying to arrange his latest delivery of Zig Posterman markers from us. In the end we had the package delivered to his home base in Trois Mares Reunion, France. He told us he works with traditional art materials but finds that the Zig Posterman waterproof markers are faster and can allow him to do more windows in a shorter amount of time.

David said it all in his January cover photo, “I’ll have your windows decorated anywhere in the world.”

Magnetic Ziggyboard 12 x 16 inches

The magnetic backed Oval Ziggyboard is a 12 inch by 16 inch chalkboard that sticks to any surface a magnet can be used on. Great for kitchen refrigerators, office furniture or any steel item. The magnetic surface is not thin magnetic tape it is .030 thick the strongest magnetic sheeting available. What is Ziggyboard?

The Ziggyboard is a composite blackboard that is manufactured to be compatible with Zig Posterman and Zig Illumigraph markers.

The board is available in a number of configurations useful for many different applications. The soft looking blackboard finish is easy to clean and reuse over and over again. Zig Illumigraph and Zig Posterman Wet-Wipe clean off with water. A soft cloth that is damp or a sponge works best. The Zig Posterman Waterproof can be removed with Windex, or nonabrasive kitchen cleaner or our Zig Posterman Blackboard cleaner.

Unique applications are possible using the waterproof markers with other markers. An example is a chart with lines that stay on, while the wet-wipe can be your information like chores to do that come off with a damp cloth.

How to DIY Sneaker Art Tutorial with Zig Posterman

Quite a few artists out there looking on the internet for how to make custom footwear. What are the steps and how do you do it?

We have published in the past some of Bobsmade art showing how they use Zig Posterman and other paints and art tools. Ziggy finds himself as a paint marker expert over on Yahoo Answers quite often providing pointers on just how it is done.

You will find that paint markers are a great tool for sneaker art since they are easy to control, the right size and come in dozens of colors. Through careful use and blending you can create graduations and highlights that give your sport shoes a professional look.

This tutorial done by Bobsmade will provide you with step by step information on how to make your own “Chucks” from start to finish.

The simple clean pallet of the base sneaker makes a great base for your artwork. Here are the simple steps.

Clean your canvas making them fuzz free, use some sticky tape to do this.
Remove the laces
Sketch out your design on paper
Copy the sketch outline to your sneaker with a 1mm or 6mm chisel tip Ziggy
Fill the spaces we like to use the same marker always start with white or your lightest color
Let dry, if you use Zig Posterman Waterproof about 4-5 minutes, if traditional acrylic paint at least one hour between layers
Remember metallic and Fluorescent are a great option and available in the Zig Posterman Product line, great for highlights
When Dry lace them up with complimentary color laces
A 1mm Zig Posterman marker works great for creating highlights, colors can go over each other when dry, no bleeding or lifting of the artwork
A coat of clear varnish or spray acrylic over your finished artwork will preserve your design

Removing, Tips and Tricks to Creating Window Chalkmarker Artwork

A new window with John Neal a professional chalkboard artist in the United Kingdom starts with him removing a Christmas window from a storefront in England.

“It is important to get the window quite clean, otherwise the ink will not adhere.” said John right before he starts. Here in the Zig Posterman labs we like to do our last clean on any surface with denatured alcohol. Matching the window to the shop sign he starts with a Zig Posterman waterproof Violet, or purple marker. The larger markers come in 21 different colors.

We often take support calls, chats and emails on “How long will it last? Do I have to do my work inside the window?” John responds, “Not my preference at all. The ink is good enough to stay on the outside. It is too tedious for yobos (UK slang for a cruel and brutal fellow) to scrape off with a finger. In fact one of my clients has a cafe in the town centre & the message on his window was left on for 14 months. it just faded a bit but the main writing was still there. having said that, if you spray with a kitchen cleaner or in particular washing soda (sodium carbonate) it virtually runs off in front of your eyes.”

After the outline he adds layers of blue dark at the bottom and light in the center with white on the top of the letters, providing a nice cool reflective look to the text. After filling in the letters you just “neaten them up” by going over the edges again with violet. Zig Posterman waterproof markers will not lift when you apply them over dry marks. This provides a lot of flexibility in your artwork.

The bottom text “Finish” get’s a similar design with white highlights solid in the center and dashed radiating out the the top and the bottom. To the eye this provides a letter that pop’s out from the glass. Finishing off the letters he uses a 6mm light blue. If you pause the tape at 7:03 you will notice the tip does not have a chisel tip but a flat tip with slightly rounded edges. What John likes to do is pull out his Zig Posterman 6mm tip and turn it around. This provides a more stable 5-6 mm line as compared to trying to hold the edge of the chisel flat.

Another trick, a homemade compass with a marker taped to one tip and a nail on the other side. This along with a suction cup makes neat little circles on the window! Something you may find doing your window artwork, people will stand and watch both inside and out of the shop!

While outside window painting is easier to do since you don’t have to work backwards, one disadvantage has been the durability of the image. Savor the Central Coast with Ziggy!

A four-day annual culinary exploration with a two-day Main Event at the historic Santa Margarita Ranch this fall had Ziggy working hard and playing hard. The order came in for over a hundred markers many in white sent by air to the central cost of California. Rounding out the order were orange green and blue markers all representative of the theme at “Savor the Central Coast” in San Luis Obispo County California.

The Main Event highlighted the talents of winemakers, celebrity chefs, brew masters, fishermen, artisanal food producers, Sunset experts, and many more artisans and producers from Ventura to Santa Cruz who call the Central Coast home.

The Marketplace included over 100 local wineries, where visitors could sample small bites dished-up from local restaurateurs, and enjoy vendors showcasing their craft. Tatum Barnes of the San Luis Obispo County Visitors and Conference Bureau said, “Thanks so much for your help with the markers – our signage for the event was a huge hit. We are confident that we will be purchasing from you guys a lot in the future! In 2013, we may order different colors, sizes, and possibly do non-waterproof.”

The farmers market included hand crafted signs that fit the environment. They were mat black with icons on the left. The hundreds of booths were identified with white Zig Posterman Waterproof markers. Hand written in a simplified Old English style with drop shadows they provided a crafted touch that matched the growers, winemakers, and artisans.

Celebrity chefs performed as they guided guests through SAVOR-exclusive chef demonstrations. Food Network Star, Aarti Sequeira was back for the second year in a row to share her kitchen secrets. The ever-popular, and funny, Ted Allen, was on hand to indulge guests with his culinary flare. Many more acclaimed chefs participated to showcase their talents throughout the main event weekend including Mandalay Bay esteemed chefs award-winning American chef, Susan Feniger and nationally acclaimed Chef Rick Moonen.

Ziggy was right up front at Chef Central, at least his markers were, with big bold classy white hand crafted text on dark mat black boards. It provided an outstanding contrast to the rich full colored Central Coast grown fruits and vegetables used in preparation at these sold out demonstrations.

California Life with Heather Dawson a innovative weekly news magazine show that shines a light on the best of California. In this edition she highlights Savor the Central Coast, you will get some shots of Zig Posterman Displays in action, but mostly it will have you wanting to plan a visit!

IdeaPaint and Ziggy’s make Unconventional Art

The call came in like many do, “Will your markers work on IdeaPaint?” We have reports from many customers one as far away as Australia using them so “sure they will work for you.” An easy answer, but our recommendation became a bit cautious for a few reasons.

Explaining the best product for IdeaPaint is the Zig Illumigraph marker we started to review the darker colors like violet, red and blue. Noah Lydiard of PJA Advertising and Marketing started asking if we had any lighter colors. He then explained that this was a clear IdeaPaint wall over a green painted wall. This key lime green wall would make an outstanding palette for all the ZigPosterman Colors.

Noah was looking for wide bold markers, something that would be highly opaque and have wide tips. The advantage with Illumigrpaph is that they can be removed with a damp cloth or even wiped off of IdeaPaint with a soft rag. A nice option in the office or home, plus they come as wide as 2 inches.

PJA also wanted some dark colors, though not available in the Illumigraph they are available in the Zig-Posterman Wet-Wipe marker. He opted to add Black Blue and Brown in 15mm to all the 50 and 15mm Illumigraph colors offered.

We paused for a moment in our conversation on his project, even taking a deep breath when the next statement came up. “We just painted the wall today, (Thursday) we have the artists set up to come in at the beginning of the next week.” It is recommended by the manufacture of IdeaPaint that the wall dry for three days, we like to see the cure a bit longer with ZigPosterman markers since the Wet-Wipes are removed with a damp cloth.

Willing to take the chance Noah at PAJ and Steve Young here at ZigPosterman.com put together the order. Out it went Friday night UPS ground for delivery to the PJA Advertising and Marketing firm in Cambridge Monday.

Starting with a blank green wall coated with IdeaPaint Clear, artists Josh Falk and Matthew Zaremba create bold radiating lines with the Zig Illumigraph 50mm marker in violet. Surprising us the next color laid down was Yellow while watching the video for the first time, “wait, wait, wait” said one of the technicians here in the lab when the artist was pressing down on the marker causing it to drip and run. While not a normal use we just waited for the video to run and the art to develop.

Blending with a water spray and paper towel the next step was to mask of sections of the design. Then the magic of Ziggy’s and IdeaPaint came out. Josh and Matthew cleaned the marker off the IdeaPaint coated wall with a damp cloth. Some of the marker paint was thick from layers in the design. in the end it was 100% clean with no ghosting or marks. After that the cleaned area recived a solid coating of red Zig Illumigraph marker with a Biggie 50 2 inch marker.

Then a surprise came, after coating the large solid triangles in the design they let the Zig Illumigrpaph marker paint dry. Using an eraser on the end of a pencil the Illumigraph marks were selectively removed to inscribe the message “Nurture the Things that Interest You…”

I wonder if we should let PJA know that the Zig Illumigraph marker is Ultra Fluorescent under blacklight?

Halloween Party Chalkboard Art Sign with Zig Posterman Markers

Halloween is coming up and John Neal has created a few chalk art blackboards for the holiday. We join John in his studio where he creates this spooky spectacular with Zig Posterman Waterproof Markers.

Notice the borders and guidelines that he adds to the board with a light pencil mark. Here in our studios we like to use a Violet Zig Illumigraph marker because it can be removed by rubbing when you are done or even using a damp cloth. No worries on your design since when dry the Zig Posterman Waterproof can not be removed except with Windex.

Using a 15mm Orange the letters are made with “dripping” bottoms by lifting the marker at the end of the stroke. Since the Posterman marker will not smear when you go over your original marks you can darken up the text where you need to after the first layer is dry.

Watch carefully when he gets to the point of making the moon. John is using a white Big and Broad marker the mixed color creating a three dimensional look to the moon is a blending of the slightly wet orange text underneath. Don’t work about your marker tip, it can be blotted out so it will be clean like new.

Using a Florescent Orange 6mm broad chisel marker to highlight the edges of “Halloween” to provide a bit of a glow to the design. White highlights along the top make it look like the moon is shining down on your design. The highlight techniques can be applied to many of your designs.

Ziggy Puts the Scare Into Your Pumpkins with Zig Paint Markers

Are you looking for a different method to create fun pumpkins this year for Halloween? Usually the whole day is spent carving out witches, ghosts, and scary jack-o-lantern designs on various sizes of pumpkins. After looking around the web painting pumpkins seemed like a good idea. With Zig Posterman Markers we were able to create fun pumpkins in minutes without the fear of knives or the mess.

You will want to use markers no larger than 6mm for anything detailed. Kids might be able to use 15mm markers on a larger pumpkin to make faces. The grasp of the marker is easy for kids to use and not messy like painting with a traditional brush and paint. The 15mm could also be used to create background color.

Wash and dry the pumpkin before adding any paint. Add the paint in layers if you intend to use multiple colors. Apply the background color first and allow this color to dry for about 10 min or so, or until dry to the touch. Then you can add the foreground color right on top of your previous color. You may want to use a variety of tips. The black and yellow on this pumpkin were done with a big and broad chisel tip and the white was done with a 2mm bullet tip. If make a mistake or decide you don’t like your design, you can wipe the pumpkin clean with ammonia based cleaner such as Windex and start all over.

You can use any color on your pumpkin since they are very opaque and you can not see through the marks that are made!

How to Care for and Store a Ziggy Paint Marker

Paint markers are a bit different from the magic marker, dry erase marker or sharpie marker you may be used to. The advantages are priceless but they need a little preparation and care to last a long time.

Zig Posterman paint markers are made with a safe solution of water and pigment. Pigment is a ground up powder that delivers the color to your wall, artwork, window, sign or board. This powder is what makes the paint long lasting in the sun. The pigment is UV resistant and will last for months or more outside. The waterproof version will even last through rain, sleet and snow!

Shake your Zig Marker

The first thing you will notice if you are preparing your paint marker for use is it will make a sound like a paint can. This is because it has a small ball inside the marker. It is important to shake up the marker for two to three minutes before you use it the first time. Leave the cap on and shake to agitate the ball in the marker. Do not prime your marker before you shake it up. If you do the solution will be to thin and run down onto and off the nib. This will cause the marker to appear to “leak” since the thin fluid will run from the nib into the cap.

Prime your Zig Marker

Now prime the marker after shaking for two to three minutes to do this press down on the tip until you see the ink begin to flow. The video is of a Zig Posterman Waterproof marker, so the cleaning information relates to that type of marker. For the Zig Posterman Wet-Wipe and Zig Illumigraph use water, a damp cloth for cleanup.

When you draw apply the pressure you need to create your design. You do not want to heavy a hand as it will wear the nib and cause more paint to flow to the tip. When you need more paint just press down for a moment.

Storing your Zig Markers

Time to put Ziggy to bed! When you are done with your marker cap it tight be sure the cap snaps on tightly. The 1mm, 2mm, 6mm and 15 mm markers have a two stage locking cap, be sure you press it all the way on. The Biggie markers have a foam seal around the edge of the cap. Make sure the cap is tight and engaged in the locking tabs on the side of the marker.

Now time for a very important step. Zig Posterman and Zig Illumigraph markers must be stored on their side. Do not put them upright tip up or tip down into a cup or holder. Most orders ship in a very sturdy box intended for storage when not in use. Inside you will likely find our little friend Ziggy, sleeping with his tight cap laying flat on his bed and dreaming of playing with dog max.
